Challenge du Tourmagne

With 950 km and 10 000 m of climbing through paths and roads connecting Melun to Nimes, here is what’s in store for Gravel enthusiasts who will set out to conquer the route, inspired by the bicycle journey of two friends at the end of the 19th century.

Gravel enthusiasts and adventurers now have a long-distance challenge to conquer at any time of the year. A challenge inspired by the story and drawings of the 126-year-old bicycle journey, of Marie-Antoine Barret and Léon Giran-Max. Using old logbooks and sketeches, Zéfal have published a book about the journey.

This challenge starts from Melun and finishes at the Tour Magne of Nîmes. It will take participants through the Venice of Gâtinais, the pointed city, the Bourbonnais country, the chain of Puys, the Cézallier, the Mounts of Cantal, the Truyère valley and its famous viaduct, the Margeride, and the Cévennes. A discovery of France via a route of 950 km, with 10 000 m of climbing. Zefal has recced thousands of kilometeres of roads to identify and select the route.

Registering for the challenge is FREE and there is no time limit to complete it. Participants will have to follow the challenge’s GPX track on their GPS unit and once completed validate their GPX file with the organisers. Participants who successfully complete the route will receive a book published based on the story of the 1897 trip, some fantastic and unique Zéfal prizes and their name will appear in the roll of honour of those people who have completed the famous ‘Challenge du Tourmagne’.
