Cycle to Work – Explained

0

Cycle to Work Scheme is a government tax incentive scheme introduced in 2009 to encourage employees to ditch their cars and travel to and from work on a bicycle. If you live and work in Ireland, you can take advantage of the scheme once every four years.

Depending on your tax bracket, you can save from 31% up to 52% on your new bike and accessories. As of 2022, the upper price limit has been increased to €1250 for non-electric bikes and accessories and €1500 for electric bikes and accessories. If the price of the bike exceeds these ammounts, you still get a discount up to €1250 or €1500 eur, you will just pay the excess.

Benefits of the Cycle to Work scheme

  • You save up to 52% on your new bike
  • Avail of the scheme every four years
  • Avoid traffic jams and get to work faster.
  • Exercise before work is said to be beneficial for productivity at work.
  • Cycling promotes a healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle.

Going to work by bike is a great way to save money and time, as it completely eliminates the need for you to sit in your car and wait in traffic.
