Pedal into Camaraderie: Joining Tallaght Wheelers – What You Need to Know

0

Interested in joining Tallaght Wheelers? Here’s what you need to know.

To become a member, you’ll need to complete a new member course, spanning three days in a safe and controlled environment. The best part? The course is free, and participants are covered by the club’s insurance. Each new member also receives a handy club handbook.

But why the new member course? It serves two essential purposes. Firstly, it imparts the basics of cycling in a group and teaches cycling etiquette. Secondly, it allows the club to assess new members’ capabilities and identify the group that best suits their needs.

If you’re an experienced cyclist or a member of another club and you can demonstrate this, you won’t need to complete the full course but are required to attend the first day.

Now, let’s talk about what you need to attend the course:

  1. Bike: Ensure you have a roadworthy bike. While a road-style bike with dropped handlebars is ideal, it’s not mandatory. You can start with a flat handlebar bike, but we strongly recommend considering a dropped handlebar bike in the future.
  2. Clothing: No need for high-performance gear initially. The same goes for shoes. However, you must have a helmet. Wear what you’re comfortable with on the bike. As you progress and catch the cycling bug, you can think about upgrading your cycling clothing. Lucky for you, we’re sponsored by Ireland’s biggest bicycle store, so you’re in the right place for cycling clothing and accessories.
  3. Experience: Regardless of your experience level, you’re welcome in the club. There’s no minimum cycling distance or average speed requirement for new members.

The upcoming new member’s course kicks off on February 11th. For more information and to reserve your spot, email csstallaghtwheelers@gmail.com. Join us on the road to cycling camaraderie!
