Strength in Numbers, Wicklow 200 Training Journey

0

I’m standing in my kitchen with a mug of warm coffee in my hand, watching some dark rain clouds stubbornly refuse to be blown away…

I’m due to leave the house for a club training spin but every inch of my body wants to go back to bed, and I’m clearly not eh only one…the what’s app group begins to ping with messages that resonate my exact thoughts.

My finger hovers over the phone ready to send my ‘I’m out’ message but then a message appears .. ‘Training miles = Race smiles’…. That’s it helmet on off I go.

This is one of the many reasons I joined a cycling club..

Training for endurance events like the Wicklow 100 and 200 can be a lonely task if you go it alone, it’s so hard to be your own cheer leader but as the saying goes there is strength in numbers!

Not only does the club provide motivation for training, It provided the training plan and the routes for those long training miles are also planned out!

All you have to do is show up.

Our club has evolved with a group for everyone no matter what your level of ability, fitness or ambition.

Being closely matched means we can enjoy fast flowing rides without worrying about over pacing or boredom.

Wicklow 200 training……. Yes it’s hard, but a team effort keeps the fun aspect.

Oh and the mandatory coffee and cake stops help too.
